What administration means
Administration places a company under the control of a licensed administrator, with a legal moratorium that stops creditors taking action while the administrator tries to rescue the business, sell it as a going concern (often via a pre-pack) or achieve a better result for creditors than a liquidation would.

Frequently asked questions
- How do I check if a company has gone into administration?
- Search the company by name or number from the home page. If it has entered liquidation, administration or a CVA in the last two years, its page shows the dates, the appointed practitioner and links to the official Gazette notice and Companies House record. See also how to check if a company is insolvent.
- Where does this list come from?
- Insolvency practitioners and the courts must publish these events in The Gazette, the UK's official public record. Insolvency List indexes those notices within about an hour of publication during UK business hours and matches each one to its Companies House record for the SIC code, registered office and incorporation date.
- Can I filter companies in administration by industry or region?
- Yes — use the industry and region chips above, or the filters on the full insolvency register, which also lets you page through the complete history.
- What is a pre-pack administration?
- A sale of the business agreed before the administrator is appointed and completed immediately afterwards — often to the existing management. Read pre-pack administration explained.
